Alright. Blog post. Finally.
So I haven’t updated in a long, long time. I don’t know why, I guess I just haven’t felt like it. I didn’t ever do a post on my mom’s visit to Glasgow, though it was a lot of fun and much too short and full of packing to go home. I haven’t even uploaded the photos to my compooter yet, but eventually they will make their way on here. It’s driving mom crazy. In lieu of photos though, I will try to provide a general play-by-play of her visit, accompanied by some thoughts of late.
I went to the airport to meet her. I cried while waiting on her, partly because I had not slept the night before in anticipation of her arrival, partly because I could not wait to see her, and partly because I kept hearing American accents from the people who were arriving. It was incredible seeing the obnoxious American tourists with their matching shirts and hats (though I wondered why the heck they picked Glasgow, which is quite an ugly city). But I recovered by the time she came out and we happily embraced and went to Starbucks for some much needed breakfast. Came back to Glasgow proper, excited about the day ahead and not minding that neither of us got more than an hour of sleep. We checked into the Premier Inn (I was SO EXCITED about the shower :D) and then I showed her the Strathclyde campus and my apartment. We packed up some stuff and took some trips with suitcases down the hill of doom to the hotel, and then did some much anticipated shopping, in which both of our shoes killed our feets. I bought two new pairs of shoes just trying to rectify the situation. I am a fashion whore. (Though I have to point out that I haven’t bought anything since returning to the USA). Modern Museum of Art: disappointing. Came back, rested a bit, then met up with Hilary and her mom and Amy for a very pleasant dinner at… a place I don’t remember the name of. Miss the Glasgow people. Then I had a shower that so did not disappoint after a semester of the sad trickle that was our apartment’s.
Next day: West End. Took a crapload of stuff to charity shops. Went shopping at vintage stores, but I don’t think we got anything. Had crepe ::for the last time :’-(:: and took it to eat in the botanical gardens, which was pleasant as punch. Don’t get to do stuff like that at home. Deleesh. Went to the Kelvinbridge museum which I lovvvvee and saw the Dali painting that dad wanted to see. THEN we caught a taxi to the Armadillo thing (which is just a boring old conference center) to see CIRQUE DU SOLEIL BABY. One of my favorites things in the world. It was Saltimbanco, and it was great, though in ridiculously uncomfortable seats. Awesome, awesome, YAY. Ate at Bella Italia, which was stho good.
Next day, last day in Scotland, typical Scottish weather. We planned to take a bus to Edinburgh and spend the day there. The previous two days had been hot and in the 70’s but this was in the 40’s and 50’s and rainy and awful and windy and yuck. We walked around Edinburgh but didn’t really accomplish much. We went into the Elephant House, but the line was ridiculous so we didn’t stay. Bought authentic Scottish umbrellas, but still got soaked and freezing. We decided to tour the Edinburgh castle, though it was ridiculously expensive and slippery and hilly and COLD. But oh well, it was interesting and we didn’t die.
Plane ride back went faasssttt. Watched How to Train Your Dragon again, and still love it. Tried to watch Valentine’s Day with mom, but we both agreed it was awful 30 minutes into it. Just a terrible movie. Also watched some tv shows and played some games and worked on a crossword puzzle and sudoku together. Honestly, time flew.
Got back. Ate tons of food. Did absolutely nothing.
More nothing. Went on the Appalachian Trail last week. I was proud of myself that I didn’t do badly hiking (but the last day of 15 miles made my feet swell up like melons). However, the pictures that have been posted of the trip have honestly got to be the worst pictures that have ever been taken of me ever. Makes a person feel good.
Back at home now. Adam and I found an awesome cookbook today that I can’t wait to get and put into action. I need to start gardening. I organized a bit of Scotland scrapbookin today, which is a step. Need to work on Dad’s stuff. Exercise. I want a kettlebell. I also need to start thinking about my senior thesis, which I’d like to be an art exhibit. But I have no idea where to start. No clue. And I’m low on a little trait I like to call discipline, so that’ll be fun. Ugh. I also miss having a job. I’d like to work at B&N, but that’ll have to wait.
Until the next time I post photos. I think I might make a new tumblr that doesn’t have Glasgow in the name that centers around design and music and stuff. I don’t know yet. I’ve kind of grown away from the internet lately.
